Running for Public Office

Elected offices in the Village of Sharon includes Village President, Village Trustees, and Municipal Judge.

The Village Board is made up of the Village President and six Trustees.  The terms of the Village President and three Trustees expire in odd numbered years.  The terms of the remaining three trustees expire in even numbered years.

The term of the Municipal Judge last four years.

Documents & Deadlines

State Statute requires that individuals seeking election complete the following:

  • Declaration of Candidacy
  • Campaign Registration Statement
  • Nomination Papers

Individuals interested in running for local office may begin to circulate nomination papers once they have submitted a Campaign Registration Statement to the Village Clerk on or after December 1st of the year preceding the election year.  The nomination papers must obtain not less than 20 and not more than 100 signatures from eligible Village electors.

Nomination Paper and Declaration of Candidacy must be completed and submitted by 5:00pm on the first Tuesday in January of the election year.
