Preliminary Public Notice for Potential Impacts to Floodplains
The Village of Sharon intends to seek financial assistance from USDA, Rural Utility Service (RUS) for construction of improvements to their existing wastewater collection system and their treatment facility (WWTF). The proposed project consists of building an electrical room, replacing the existing aeration blowers with new units that will operate on variable frequency drives, replacing the dome for the existing package activated sludge structure, remove and replace the existing final clarifier equipment, and heighten an existing earthen berm all at the existing facility. The specific location of the existing WWTF is along Salt Box Road, which is in the NW ¼ of SE ¼ of Section 32, T1N, R15E, Walworth County, Wisconsin
If implemented, the proposed project will convert Critical Action Floodplain– which is the 500-year flood plain, by constructing small building additions and heightening an existing berm in the flood plain. In accordance with Executive Order 11988, Floodplain Management, and USDA Departmental Regulation 9500-3, Land Use Policy, the purpose of this notice is to inform the public of this proposed conversion or effect and request comments concerning the proposal, alternative sites or actions that would avoid these impacts, and methods that could be used to minimize these impacts.
